The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the Engineering Technical College in Maysan held an educational and awareness symposium entitled (Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) in cooperation with the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Maysan, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Mahmoud Aziz Muhammad, and the college’s employees and students.
The symposium, in which Mr. Haider Abbas Abdel Karim and Mr. Muhammad Taher Abdel Abbas lectured, aimed to address the drug phenomenon, by organizing a series of scientific seminars, awareness campaigns and workshops, in cooperation with the relevant authorities in this regard.
The symposium touched on several topics, including clarifying the harmful effects of drugs and the extent of their danger to humans, reviewing the reasons behind drug abuse, as well as explaining its legal ruling.
The symposium came out with several recommendations, including the need for all parties to take a leadership role in raising community awareness and practicing continuous education to limit the spread of the drug phenomenon and its further expansion, especially among young people, as they are the target group of this phenomenon.
